R/C Hydroplanes & Raceboats
This fleet of models shows some of Hank Pyrciak builds, some are his own radio-controlled models and race on the R/C circut. Recently completed models include a scratch built model of Bill John's vintage Gar Wood Speedster Obsession, and Century 21 Special Y-3 for Bill DeGlopper. Hank is a model boat builder who predominently creates scratch built scales of the real racing boats. He is a member of the WNYR/C BOAT RACERS  club which is a small club that build and race models.

1. Budweiser model is 46" long, weighs 13 lbs., and has a G23cc gas motor. Both the boat and motor were built by B. H. Hanson in Las Vegas, NV. It is a wooden hull and canopy is fiberglass.
2. Smokin Joe Hydroplane model is 42" long, weighs 12lbs., and has a G23cc B.H. Hanson gas motor. This model was built by Hoover Boats in California and is all fiberglass in construction.
3. Smokin Joe Mono model all fiberglass and is 42" long, weighs 12lbs, and has a G23cc B.H. Hanson motor. This is an Aeromarine model from Seaford, DE.
4. Smokin' Joe Outrigger model is 38" long, weighs 11lbs, and has a G23cc gas motor. This is a wood model built by Terry Kelley in Canada. It was a 90 nitro model, that I converted to a G23cc B.H. Hanson gas motor.
5. Obsession model is a 57" long, weighs 24lbs, and has a G35cc gas motor. This is an all wooden model that I am in the process of building . It is about 90% done and was this winters project. I saw this boat on your vintage boat web site and began making it from scratch, using the photos that were posted on the web.

All right, here we go......Guess which of the above two photos is the Radio Conrol Irishman and which photo is the actual GP Class vintage hydroplane! Here are some clues: One is 46" long, weighs about 15 pounds and is powered by a stock G23cc B.H. Hanson motor. The other is about 20' long, weighs closer to 2,000 pounds and is powered by a  625 hp/427 Chevy. Well, unless Bill has put in an antenna on his hydro...you've probably fiqured it out.

Hank scratch built this R/C Irishman vintage for Bill Fisk in 1999.
Bill is also the owner of full scale, Henry Lauterbach, 1971  built, GP class vintage hydroplane.

These are the test run photos before Bill took over R/C control.
The Irishman is an all wooden model.

Obsession
Here's a couple of photos of R/C Obsession. These photos are of the hardware being put on the model.

You can see it is not ready to launch yet.........but maybe in about 3 weeks.

The master himself, Hank, installing the engine cover
The model, when this photo was taken, still needs the fuel tank, radio equipment, and a drive shaft installed. When it's all completed, I'll place the driver and the riding mechanic in the hull and then it's off to the races.

Christening of the r/c model Obsession. (L-R) Howard, Chris, from Buffalo N.Y. and Hank.
Howard helps by launching the model into the water.

These 3 photos shows the model running in the pond, while testing different speeds.
Looks like the top range should be in the high 40's.

with the model RC Obsession for the first time at the 2002 Buffalo Launch Club Regatta.

This is another model that I scratch built of the T-Plus Hydroplane for Chris of Buffalo, N.Y.

This picture is of the Budweiser was taken July 2000 at the Gas Internats of IMPBA in Huntsville, Alabama.
I took second place in open gas hydro.

My newest completion is this hydro. Scratch built copy of a 1960 Miss Bardal roundnose. I painted it in my "Smokin' Joe" colors to match my fleet. The deck is all mahogany, and I built a model of a Allison motor to sit on top of my Zenoah G23 gas motor. The model is 48" long and I plan to run it in one of the IMPBA District 1 Races this summer. I am in the process of upgrading my Mono and Unlimited Light Hydros. I hope everyone is enjoying viewing my models.
