Fred & Karen Shearer arrive with Avenger A-30 to the Moose
Lake Gran Prix Regatta.
This is the 3rd year the local APBA Vintage & Historic hydros are
invited to exhibit and run.
Phil Mitchell preparing the Flying Tiger F-726.
A week ago Phil had this boat upside down and was finishing up on a
new bottom replacement on the hydro.
Phil Spruit making preparations before trailer firing the 427 Ford in Moonshine Baby H-54.
Bob Leckner watches over as it is time to "warm up the oil".
Andy Mitchell directing traffic at the docks.
Karen mans the Avenger while Fred gets ready to suit up.
Waiting our turn.
Green flag goes up.
Fred checks traffic.
Beautiful weather....vintage inboards making some noise.............fun!
Phil comments, the new bottom has Flying Tiger feeling very
solid, esp through the turns.
Fred's methanol-burning 4 cylinder is screaming.
The Avenger was originally built in 1970 by Ron Jones, Sr.
Moonshine Baby was built originally in 1960 using Ted Jones
280 class blueprints...it was 'stretched 3 feet' so she could run in the
7 Litre class.
Vintage drivers always wear a big smile after a run.
Built originally by John Gibbs in 1978.
After the run.
Hmmm.....I've seen this before.....happened last fall, too.
Bearing & seal has broke off the log shaft. Guess the inside is
going to get a little wet too.
I think Andy likes the new bottom too........that, and the almost
legal class motor.
Motor in Avenger is a 1966 Chevy II (Nova) 153 CID.
Hilborn constant flow fuel injection running methanol.
It's a work of art seeing how the headers 'wrap around' the injectors.
Thanks Dean for once again getting the lift & handling the boats
so nice!
It was a fun filled 2 day event.
Thanks for coming along with us to Moosehead Lake in Minnesota!
