Clear Lake 2007
AN ASSEMBLY OF LEGENDARY RACE BOATS
116-E Honeybear
The oldest surviving 280 National Chyampion (1961)
28-B Lil' Bee
Ernie Rose dominated the B Racing Runabout class with his high-flying
cut-down Speed Liner hull powered at various times with a Ford V8-60, a
Ford Falcon 144 ci, and a Ford 200 ci six cylinder. Lil' Bee was
thirteen times a National Champion, set eight world speed records, and
just to heap insult on top of injury, Ernie in 1963 built a 200 ci Ford
six, towed the outfit from Patterson, CA to Florida, and entered and WON
the E Racing Runabout Nationals!!!
H-71 Redskin
AKA Whizski AKA Miss Heidelberg AKA Hustler
Built in 1956 by Ron Jones to a design by his dad Ted Jones, this twenty-footer
was intended to be a Seven Litre but was instead registered as an Unlimited
class hydro and entered in the Gold Cup in 1957. To meet the minimum
hull length the tail fin was swept back and lengthened by five feet. She
failed to qualify but provided a counterpoint to the outlandish U-24 Miss
U that year.Converted back to a Seven Litre, she was re-powered with a
souped-up 374 ci Packard V8. Her competition record is documented
in the book "Packards at Speed" by Robert J. Neal.
88-SS Shockwave (the original)
This beautiful Patterson hull was five years old when the Super Stock
class was formed in 1965.
She is a two time National Champion in the Super Stock class.
E-247 Thrill Me
A very pretty restored Lauterbach 280 class hydro, owned by John Lawrence.
This was a very good start by California Speedboat Association and Region
11 enthusiasts, and we are looking forward to a bigger meet in 2008.
