Plenty of warm sunshine and very mild temperatures
greeted the visitors to this year's Mount Dora Boat Show. This show is
hosted by the Sunnyland Chapter of the ACBS. The quaint town of Mount Dora
is located about 45 minutes NW of Orlando, Florida on Lake Dora. The town
host a week long festival in conjunction with the vintage boat show. There's
a neat old train stationed next to the park and is running for rides on
that. Also. plenty of old automobiles and motorcycles were shown at the
event.
The Ventor built and Apel-designed Juno
G-12 was on display.
Apel's grandson was their answering questions
on Ventors.
This years show feature was specifically
for Ventor built hulls and quite a few were available for viewing.
The Juno is masterfully restored
and the engine bay is impeccably detailed. This old Packard must
be quite rare and is quite the motor to see.
Our vintage division leadership was represented
by Bob Moore displaying his Lloyd built S-94 Hi-Q and Tom D'Eath
displaying his Greavite. This show takes place at the town docks in Mount
Dora which hosted races at this site years ago.
The C-U-Later Y-93 was on display.
This hull is owned by Doug Apy of New Smyrna
Beach, Florida.
(formally of the Red Bank, New Jersey area).
It's a Colcock hull and was first owned
by Sunny Jones and later by Jim Appley, who Doug bought it
This small hydro was for sale with an $8,000.
price tag. The restoration showed very well. It was originally built by
Chuck Thompson. This racing hull is powered by a Crosley and is owned by
Allen Brady, owner of Southern
Crown Boatworks of Atlanta. If you need screws or other fasteners,
drop Allen an email. Bob stated he has used Allen when he needed
monel screws and he's good. If you contact Allen, should be able to fill
you in on it's racing history.
The
Tempo VI is a quarter-scale model
built by Keith Brayer. This model is quite
a work of art and must be seen in person to truly appreciate the craftsmanship
that went into it's construction.
Another incredible model on display was
Sin
E-156.
John W Long built it along with Allen B
Long, Mike Long, and Alan Long.
The
Go Go Girl E-42 is a 280 class
hull powered by a 305 Chevy.
It was built in 1969 by Henry Lauterbach.
The hydro is owned by Ray Maloney of Key
West, Florida.
The hull was formerly owned and driven by
Teddy Baker as Bo's Back.
Looks like plenty of room for more classic
boats to show.
The word was about 150 classic hulls were
on display at the show.
Many of them were out cruising the chain
of lakes that surround this beautiful village.
Canals connect the lakes together and provide
ample scenery throughout the areas many lakes.
