Time Fly's F-100
Time Flys F-100
At Lake Wheeler for the F-100's first trip around the lake.
When I got the boat there was not much left of it. I had a 427 motor built for the 6 liter that needless to say when I
got my hands on the boat, it was way too small. However, we did install it and run it. It was too heavy. F-100 now has a modified 6 liter that is very perky.
My daughter and her daughter Anna who loves steering wheels.
I purchased a 6 liter hull that was initially built in 1982 by John
Staudacher and never finished.
It was ordered by a Jake Ouriel and apparently put up until a few years
ago when Mike Endres purchased it at auction.
He then sold it to Mike Cashin whom sold it to me.
I immediately went to work cleaning and fabricating all new hardware,
new decks, etc. to run the boat as a replica of the one I had years ago.
The boat was built for a gentleman, Jake Ouirel, whom now resides in
Rochester NY. I am told Jake was a successful racer in boats N-76 and F-100
Time Fly's. Jake retired from racing in 1966. The boat replicates
nothing in reality. It's just an old boat that never got to get wet.
These are the maiden voyage, the reason for no cowling.
If I may introduce myself, I am John Harvey, age 55. I became involved
in racing at age 19, as a helper to Fred Sutton, Jr. both of us from Kinston,
NC. This would have been 1970 when Fred at the time owned a 1965 red metalflake
Rayson Craft SK-1300. He was running a 392 Hemi, fully modified
in SK class. The following year I purchased a "then" vintage 145 hydro from
someone in Maryland. It was called Miss Carmen and would not get
out of it's own way. Stu Shane was racing at the time and would remember
the boat. After becoming proficient as a driver as well as mechanic, I
sold the 145 and started driving the SK to several region 4 championships.
Realizing the need for more speed and a better ride, Fred purchased from
Bobby Murray of Raleigh, his Biesmeyer hull Bankwalker in 1979.
With numerous days of testing, and finally a good engine program, we won
national points title in I believe 1982. During the years 1979-82 I purchased
a 7 liter hydro and campaigned it, as well as the SK. This boat was Budweiser
Racing Special J-21.
The plans for the boat were to mainly have a fast and hopefully safe
boat. Attend a few vintage events, but mainly play on the river with it. If it runs well and that is anyone's guess at this point it may be
a competitive NM which I may sell for that use. I have no desire to ever
race again.
It's not quite finished, and has no resemblance of my old boat I called
Budweiser
Racing Special J-21.
I am also restoring the J-1 Bluewater Special/Special Edition.
