This hydro originally ran a modified Chevy II engine that was fuel injected running in the A class. In 1976 after being purchased buy the Silva family it was outfitted with a 273 cu. in. Dodge engine for the new 280 stock class. Hillary Govia, an engine builder and friend of the Silvas was called upon to build the engine for the hydroplane. The engine was built to the existing rules that allowed only blueprinting of stock parts. Oiling system modifications, a blueprinted stock camshaft balancing and extra lower end clearances were added and a custom oil pan was built along with a few different sets of exhaust headers. APBA rules were and still are very strict pertaining to the stock classes and it must be also noted that the engine builder was at that time was a APBA and NHRA inspector. |
