(Photo courtesy of Phil Kunz Photography) Ken Grzesiak is the new owner of the boat Lil Northern Star N-56. I, (Pete Silfven) am the crew chief for his raceboats. This is the first hydro we have owned, we have a lot of experience with flatbottoms and offshores. We got the boat at Clayton Antique Raceboat Regatta 2000, and it is in really great shape. Everything is still in varnish inside and out, and I can't find one bit of rot or deterioration anywhere on the boat. Don't think it was ever seriously wrecked. We hope to get it out next year, and really need to talk to someone in the Detroit area who might be able to get us pointed in the right direction. The hull is a Ron Jones Sr. I guess we were lucky finding one in such nice shape. These photos were taken on the day we brought the boat home. The previous owner was Ken Helwig of Corunna, Ontario who won the 1984 championship as Lil' Northern Star. He still has the trophy plaque. I believe the boat was last raced in1987 or '88. This photo shows Ken Helwig on the left, and the new owner, Ken Grzesiak on the right. A couple of other tidbits: Best Kilo speed was 135.945 mph. Boat runs an 11.5" x 19 3-blade Merc cleaver type prop. The engine is a 215 Buick which sounds good. I am in the process of acquiring parts to build another for a spare.
