WANTED:
Members for this new division. Please contact
all racing members that you know who have retired, your dads, moms, uncles,
cousins, and friends. Tell them about a new way to join APBA for a wonderful
time without the dangers of racing. This is the time to re-establish old
friendships, tell the old stories, do some traveling, drag out those scrapbooks,
newspaper clippings and pictures. This division is open to all - Inboards,
Outboards, Stock Outboards, Unlimiteds, Offshore and all others. You do
not even need to own equipment to join and enjoy the benefits of the Vintage
and Historic Division.
BOATS UNDER RESTORATION:
Jon Bartell of Springfield, Ohio, has had the
Miss Washington D.C, F-999 completely restored. The boat was formerly
owned by Gene Henderson and driven by the famous late Mike Thomas back
in the ‘60’s
We understand that Bill Coberly from
Southern California has acquired Rodney Brogden’s Kitty B (225 Hydro)
and is restoring it for this summer’s events.
I have located one of Bill Ritner’s famous
Wa Wa Too inboard hydros (F-247) and I am presently getting
it back in shape. Henry Lauterbach, Ron Musson, Don and Stu Wilson drove
this boat.
Mark Edmonson of Port Huron, MI is presently
restoring Miss Sapphire N-700, previously owned by Mack Jordan.
Carl Wilson of Harper Woods, MI is restoring
Sherman Polhamus’ Tiger N-72.
Jim Darrencourt of Allen Park, MI has
purchased Ron Brown’s Gone Heavy F-94 and restoration is underway.
One of the nicest finds of all was to
meet Joe Frauenheim of Bellevue, WA who has rescued the Tempo VI,
which won the Gold Cup in 1946 with Guy Lombardo at the helm. This boat
also won two previous Gold Cups as the My Sin, owned and driven
by Zal Simmons. In my opinion this is a classic race boat. It is pre-war
and was one of the first three-point Ventnor hydros.
Randy Wold of Spanaway, WA has done a
magnificent job of preserving Wayne Thompson’s Cumon Baby, a five
time National Champion and double World Record Holder in the 135/150 cu.
in. class.
If you know of any race boats under restoration,
please notify me so that I can include the information in my column next
month.

and social activities. We are presently negotiating for additional events
to be held this summer, but nothing is firm at this time. Attention race
promoters! If you wish to include us on your schedule, please contact me.
We will work with you.
