Justa-Pest II N-56
Danny Walls, Sr.
We recently lost this great Champion driver, seen here piloting Gene Benning's 225 class hydro in the early 1970s.
The couple of times I spoke to Dan in the last few years, I really enjoyed listening to him talk about this boat and the accomplishments he and my Dad made.
Bill Benning.

While driving many boats in the Y, S & H classes, Bellevue, Kentucky's Danny Walls was most successful in the N class where he won 3 straight USA National Championships, 1969-70-71. Later, Dannny spent 2 years driving in the unlimited class.  Walls was still active in inboard hydroplane racing with his son Danny, Jr. driving.

Start of a qualifying heat race
  •  E-14 Warhawk (Dea and Wally) highly modified Sooy hull (wood cabover) Chevy 305
  • E-60 Fast Company (Steve David) Karleson wood hull (with shoes and possibly a Ford 302)
  • E-726 X-Ray (Mark Burkhardt) Staudacher wood & narrow hull, Chevy
  • E-5 Jezabell (Spellman Pellerin - driver | Jim Ranson - owner) Kelson hull (with a built in shoe on the shaft log), Chevy 305
  • E-30 Budget Buster Racing (Ray Lynn) - homebrew conventional/cabover. Possibly Plymouth but more than likely a Chevy

  • Note the group of diverse boats, drivers, builders, motors and a good ole' flying start. A testament to what many would call real APBA racing.

"Miss Budweiser" used in the movie Madison
The photo taken at the 2001 Buffalo Antique & Classic Boat Show on Grand Island, NY. The boat was owned by Bob Schroeder and he had my Father (Robert Hackett) as a riding mechanic. This was the last time Bob & Bob rode together. I received my ride directly after and the boat was sold. I will never forget the things my Dad did for me and this was the best memory of him I have. Built by Marcel Belleville originally - a French-Canadian designer & builder. Marcel built several boats with the principle that it was an Inboard, but based on an Outboard . Overall length is 19' 4". Jim Dernoncourt & Rob Kaufman teamed up to make this restoration happen.

Fred Wickens was selling frame kits and we believe this boat to be one of them. Photo 'borrowed' from a posting on the Jalopy Journal's H.A.M.B (Hokey Ass Message Board). Racing history unknown, if any.
