Mulford Trophy lost
The John W. Mulford trophy, awarded annually to the "power boat man of the year," has disappeared and can not be located. The sterling silver bowl was given to APBA by the National Association of Engine and Boat Manufacturers and was first awarded to Jack Regas in 1957. Hugh Entrop received it for 1958. During the winter of 1959, he apparently returned the trophy to National Headquarters so it could be taken to the New York Council meeting in January 1960 to be presented to Wm. Edgar John.
Unfortunately the trophy was not taken to New York in time for the meeting and John received only the small take-home replica which is shown in a picture in the February 1960 Propeller.
It was apparently arranged that the trophy would be picked up in Detroit and be carried to New York by some individual. This was done so far as can be determined, but the name of the person was not recorded or where the trophy
was delivered. The original trophy has not been seen since. The 1960 recipient, Jimmy Jost, also received only the small replica. There was no award in 1961.
If any person has knowledge of the whereabouts of this outstanding trophy which will help locate it, the Trophy Committee and National Headquarters will appreciate hearing from him.

Writers Award To Be Continued For 1963
President C. D. Strang announced that the APBA Writers Award will be presented again in 1963 to the author of the best newspaper or magazine article on power boat racing or the activities of the Association.
Recognition of the author who contributes to the good of the sport was first made by APBA in 1961. The handsome bronze plaque and cash award was won by Richard B. Kirkpatrick of Popular Mechanics magazine for his article on predicted log contests for cruisers.
The 1962 award went to Eileen Crimmin of Seattle, Wash., for her article on the activities and attitudes of drivers in the pits, away from the race course and the public. Entitled "Motor Boat Racing's Royal Court -The Pits," it appeared in the February 1962 issue of Motor' Boating and related the disappointments, joys, fellowships and general goings-on of power boat racing's royalty, the drivers.
The 1963 award will be presented at the Association's 60th annual meeting in November at Cincinnati, Ohio. It will consist of an engraved bronze plaque and  $150 in cash.
A trophy is also presented to the person who submits the winning article. Anyone, including the author, may send an article in to National Headquarters for consideration. The articles submitted are judged by a panel of professors of journalism.

B & T Power Boat Assn.
The B. & T. Power Boat Association of Buffalo held its annual banquet on Feb. 9 at the Buffalo Launch Club. It is an affair which acclaims and honors its boatmen who made outstanding records the previous season, and installs its new officers with an eye toward the forthcoming season. The event drew the largest attendance on record.
New officers installed were Commodore Ralph Barker; Vice-Commodore Gordon Reed; Fleet Captain Howard Davis; Secretary Donald Less; Treasurer Alfred Boyd; and Sergeant-at-Arms Dennis Ahern.
Among the special awards made were the achievement award for 100 mph average during kilo trials at Norristown, Pa. in November 1962 to Jack Wohlfehrt with his Miss Twin City 280 hydro.
Ed (Pop) Schroeder was awarded the Red Oldfield trophy for his past record of service to boatmen and the promotion of racing.
Tim Moriarty was presented the Boo Boo Trophy. He became so engrossed with helping a buddy ready his boat for a race that he failed to get his own runabout to the pits in time to check it out, and this cost him a chance to compete.
Herb Gielow was presented with a watch in appreciation of his faithful and devoted service as Commodore of the B. & T. for the past three years.
Charles Shedd, Club secretary in past years, was honored for his service and presented a plaque.
Ed Trayford Jr., 280 driver, received a certificate for the fine performance in becoming high point winner for Region 2.
Also lauded and presented with gifts for the generous donation of their equipment on regatta days (such as cranes, amphibious "duck," diving equipment, trucks, etc.) were Gordon Reed, Clarence Hackett, Melvin Rupp and Dick Voit.
Jim O'Connor, local hydro driver who piloted Don McDonald's Colorflame of Toronto, Ont., to a win at the Miami Orange Bowl, was commended for his fine performance. Gordy Reed was another local driver who competed at this Regatta.
The B. & T. plans to hold its annual Round-Grand Island marathon in July. The two-day regatta will be held at the Isle View location on Aug. 17-18.
Area racers who won acclaim at the fifth annual Niagara Frontier boating Hall of Fame breakfast were Ed Trayford, Jr., Harold (Bucky) Bucholtz, Gordon (Gordy) Reed, Torby Barker, Gene Roesch, Tim Moriarty, and Bill Burgess.

Seattle Inboard Racing Assn.
Those who attended the Seattle, Wash., Boat Show in February had high praise for the excellent representation of the Seattle area boat racing clubs. The show, the first to be held in the Century 21 World's Fair Coliseum since the fair closed, saw record crowds view its displays.
Adjacent to the entrance was the outstanding display of the Seattle Inboard Racing Association, which included action pictures compiled from local racing events, the starting clock and flags, an official safety boat with items used for safety and rescue work, and several outstanding racing crafts. Included were the Lyford-Colcock two-year national championship 7 litre Challenger, Steve Elias' SK runabout Fools Gold, Jack Philpot's record-breaking 48 hydro Voo-doo II, and John Ryan's beautiful new Jones 225 hydro Shillelagh.
Another well-attended exhibit was prepared by the Seattle Outboard Association. Miss Thriftway, unlimited national champion, was displayed by her crew on its tilt-up trailer so all could see top and bottom construction.
Members of the two clubs were on hand to answer numerous questions asked about the display and received compliments by the boat show management for the fine racing exhibit.
