VINTAGE HOT BOAT OF THE MONTH:
Southern California has a long history of being a hot bed for the 135/150 hydroplane class and Dr. Robert Roach of San Diego, CA. had some of the fastest.
In this Leo Wildman photo, Robert Frazee, driving Dr. Robert Roach’s, LA CUCARACHA, A-34 leads a field of 150 hydros at the 1966 Western Divisionals on Mission Bay. The Roach designed hull was powered by an injected Chevy II and won the 150 Nationals in 1967 and set a 5-mile competition record of 83.333 mph with Glenn Brewer driving, in 1970.
Dr. Roach’s second LA CUCARACHA, A-67 aka LA CUCA PIRANHA, a Doc  Eastman design, was driven by Joe Anderson to a 1975 Nationals win and Kilo record of 128.600 mph. (photo courtesy of Pat Roach)
