BOATS UNDER RESTORATION:
Update on my Southern Style 150 cubic inch hydroplane, I’ve been doing a lot of fishing, because the weather is hot, so progress has been slow. All the woodworking on the boat has been finished. All the varnishing has been completed on the bottom and inside. The machine work on the chain coupling is finally done. I am presently installing the engine. What’s left to do is finish the restoration of the trailer. Jim Appley’s Tru Arc Welding is handling the metal-fabrication work on that. Once I finish installing the engine, I’ll need to make exhaust headers, plumb it and wire it, paint it, and test it. Can’t wait. I haven’t had a ride in Southern Style since the early seventies.

NOTES:
Bud Gann owner and operator of Aries Boat Company out of Lakeland, FL is wondering, ”Why all the boats written about in the vintage articles are inboards? Would it be possible to do some articles on other types of boats?” Answer: Absolutely, this writer will include all articles about other types of raceboats. We need to receive information from our readers. I have asked our readers on many occasions for material, such as pictures, and stories. Especially the outboards and stock outboards, because I am not strong in history of the outboard racing classes. Please all you outboard fans--- help us out. Let’s get some stories in here.
Bud goes on to say that he is currently restoring the original Molinari outboard tunnel boat built for Fred O’Neal. This boat was campaigned in the mid-seventies and was sponsored by Marlboro. Bud tells us the boat held many records and won many races during this era.

VINTAGE RACERS REDISCOVERED:
